Demand to shift garbage dumping site
ITANAGAR, Jan 07: Banderdewa Karsingsa Youth Welfare Association today demanded the district administration for immediate shifting of garbage dumping site from Karsingsa, saying that it is polluting the area and emanating foul smell at NH 52A. The Association also claimed that dumping site is not properly fenced and wastage materials also causing pollution at Dikrong River which is hazardous for both human being and aquatic animal and plants.
ANYA writes to tourism minister
ITANAGAR, Jan 07: All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) in a memorandum to the Tourism and RWD Minister has appealed him for immediate retendering of lease for a Ganga Lake Care Taker and to carry out immediate eviction drive against encroachment within the campus of Ganga lake.
In its memorandum, the Association said that lease period of the present care taker has already been expired. Therefore, retendering for the same is necessary for proper maintenance of Ganga lake and tourist lodge, it said.
Alleging encroachment in area of Ganga lake, the Association further said a magisterial team should conduct spot visit and take necessary action against encroachment.

CM assures support to stengthen NCC movement
ITANAGAR, Jan 07: Maj Gen R K Sharma, Additional Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC), based at Shillong this morning called on Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at his official residence here. He was accompanied by Col M Rath, Group Commander and Col S A Patil, Commanding Officer, Naharlagun.
The NCC top brass discussed various issues concerning the NCC movement and activities in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister assured all cooperation for the growth of NCC family in the state’s educational institutions and said his government is committed to support all kind of constructive activities involving youths.
“We have to channelize the energy and interest of our youths lest they sway away from the mainstream. NCC is an important movement in this regard that can imbibe in our youths discipline and patriotism for their state and country,” he observed.
The Chief Minister opined that NCC programme should be implemented in every educational institution irrespective of government and private so that its influence reaches every section of youths in the state.
As per information, the NCC programme, funded by the Central Government, is confined to government institutions. In case private institutions opted to implement the programme, it would have to manage its own funds for the activities.
Highlighting the advantages of NCC programme, besides inculcating moral values and discipline, Maj Gen Sharma said that cadets excelling and reaching the highest levels have the advantage of getting recruited into the various wings of the Indian Armed Forces directly.
He assured the Chief Minister that activities of the NCC would be intensified and its reach extended in the state in the coming years.
From the state government the Chief Minister was joined by Chief Secretary H K Paliwal and Principal Secretary to CM Yeshi Tsering.
‘Memoirs of a Boy’ released at Itanagar

ITANAGAR, Jan 07: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has released a fiction novel ‘Memoirs of a Boy’ at his chamber in a small but impressing function today. The book is authored by 19 yrs old Banta Natung.
The novel was earlier released at Moga in Punjab by Dr. Joram Beda (IAS) Moga ADC on 18th November 2012.
Releasing the book Tuki congratulated the young novelist for his successful effort to come up with a book. He said that it would encourage other youths of the state in pursuing their interests and reach out to the literary world.
Expressing hopes that Natung will contribute a lot in the coming days, Tuki said ‘if he can achieve a milestone in tender age, he will do wonder in future too.’
Interacting with the author during the book release, Tourism and RWD Minister Pema Khandu, said, the book would surely convey a positive message for young writers of the state. Deputy Speaker, Jomde Kena, Parliamentary Secretary for Civil Aviation, Jambey Tashi and Political Secretary to CM, Bamang Tago were present among others at the book release function.
The debut fiction of Natung, a B Tech student of Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab portrays the story of any other boy from the state. Hailing from Veo village under Pijeraing circle of East Kameng, it is a dream comes true for Banta to get his book published as he had to wait for 2 years for its publication. Natung disclosed that finding a publisher was a tough job as he had to wait long two years after submitting his manuscript to four publishers across the country. The book has already hit the online shopping sites like Flipkart, Amazon, Jabong and others.
The book has been published by Lead Start, a Mumbai based publishing house. Earlier the book was released at Indo Soviet Friendship College of Pharmacy, Moga, Punjab on Nov 18, 2012. He is the son of Blay Natung and Mema Natung. He did schooling from St. Joseph School, Seppa and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Naharlagun. As a child he had worked as a child artist in a documentary film “Sangu Lamta”. He won numerous awards in writing essays, poems, and science project presentations/exhibitions at district, state and national levels.
‘Memoirs of a Boy’ is a touching story of a simple village teenager from a small town who comes to the city, to complete his high school and with hope to find his girl friend. However, that is not an easy task. Yet, he believes that she is waiting for him too. In the city he starts partying, flirting with girls, drinking; all this becomes a habit with him. One day he receives a message from an unknown number that reminds him of his early days. Memories come back of school days, of his village with its scenic hills, and its innocent villagers.
The story takes you through the transition of a village boy; his dreams and first experiences with the Nuns, English, different types of people, and his journey from a simple village boy to the city.
Nyishi and Bodo renew commitment for strong bonding

GOHPUR, Jan 07: When there is a trust and mutual understanding, a boundary is just an imaginary line. A wave of camaraderie and bonhomie were all pervasive when leaders of Bodo and Nyishi communities renewed their commitment to share each other’s burden during the annual conference of Sonitpur district cum West Gohpur Anchalik Committee of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) at Bodo National Academy, Borphukuri near Gohpur, Assam yesterday.
Infact, during the communal riots at Udalguri in 2008 and Kokhrajar and Chirang districts last year, the NES and ANSU while expressing solidarity with the sufferings of Boro had dispatched a ‘relief mission team’ with relief materials for the victims.
The cordial relation between the two communities, as a matter of fact, dates back to Assam turmoil of 70s and 80s when the Nyishi living in the foothills accorded shelter to the Bodo when they were persecuted. Addressing the conference, Nyishi Elite Society (NES) president Bengia Tolum called for continuation of the strong bonding between both the communities.

Emphasising on cultural exchanges between the people of Assam and Arunachal as a true harbinger of peace, he opined that through such medium bonding between the two neighbours gets stronger.

Dwelling house gutted at Ruksin

RUKSIN, Jan 07: The dwelling house of one Okem Paron of Ngorlung village under Ruksin circle was burnt down in a devastating fire which broke out on Sunday at around 3.30 pm.
The inferno completely burnt the large SP type building and the kaccha kitchen along with all properties kept in the house as there was no family men in the house during the fire. Many valuable properties, including a scooty, household items like, TV, refrigerator, gold ornaments, precious beads, clothes and food items besides huge quantity of chopped timber and cash money were burnt into ashes in the fire.
The family claimed to have lost properties worth Rs 40 lakh in the devastating fire.
The villagers said, the fire started from unknown source quickly turned into inferno because of a leaking gas cylinder. Altogether, three LPG cylinders burst. Fortunately, there was no casualty.
“Scores of people rushed to the site of the incident and tried to retrieve belongings from the burning house, but nothing could be saved. The fire had damaged all properties before fire tenders from Jonai fire station, Assam arrived few minutes after the fire,” said the neighbours.
Although the cause of the fire is not yet to be ascertained, police did not rule out electric short circuit behind the fire.
Meanwhile, Police and administrative officials of Ruksin have inspected the accident site and taken stock of the fire accident. Properties lost or damaged in the fire are being assessed.

ITANAGAR, Jan 07: Si Donyi Festival was celebrated by the Tagin communities of the state for universal peace and prosperity for all mankind.
Attending the celebration at Itanagar, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki urged the people of the community to preserve their rich culture and traditions. The CM advised them not to take alcohol much as it leads to many untoward incidents besides creating health hazards. He announced Rs One crore funds under SPA for a Community Centre for the Tagins. Tagin Language Grammar and Dictionary book were launched on the occasion along with Tagin audio album “Giite Loda Ge”.

Step to reduce women migrant workers
According to the Sri Lankan authorities, the island nation's migrant labor force has been dominated by female domestic aides (especially to the Middle East), for many years.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) aims to reduce women migrating overseas to work as domestic aides by 80 to 90 percent by 2020.
"We do not approve of women going overseas to work as domestic aides. However, we cannot put a complete end to it immediately. Therefore, we have launched a number of programs to upgrade their skills and find better employment opportunities for them in specialized vocations," SLBFE Chairman.
According to SLBFE Chairman, Sri Lanka's migrant labor force has been dominated by female domestic aides (especially to the Middle East), for many years. Although this category of workers have earned billions of rupees as foreign revenue, the chairman pointed out that labor experts believe their migration abroad has caused social problems.
A few years ago housemaids constituted around 80 percent of the total Sri Lankan migrant worker population. However, according to the latest figures this has dropped to less than 40 percent.

Dear Editor,
Through you esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of the authorities towards the traffic problem in state Capital. Since last two years we the capital dwellers are facing great trouble due to traffic problem.
It is observed that many young and underage people are riding bikes and driving vehicles in very rough manner. Therefore, firstly, I would like to request the traffic Cell to strictly check driving license and rough driving and book the violators of traffic rules under traffic laws.
Secondly, there should be proper stoppage for the trackers and tempos. It is seen that the drivers are stopping or parking their tempos/trackers anywhere on the roadside making unnecessary traffic jam.
I request all the vehicle users to drive their vehicles smoothly and not to park their vehicles everywhere. VIPs are also requested to blow siren if and when required.
